As if Knoll wasn't exclusive enough, with its tightly held licenses on furniture by iconic mid-century masters including Harry Bertoia, Eero Saarinen, and Ludwig Mies van der Rohe, they've taken to raiding the fashion closet. Following the cues of Proenza Schouler, who debuted a collection for Knoll back in the fall of 2008, Rodarte design duo Kate and Laura Mulleavy too have launched a line of textiles for the Knoll Luxe label.
The collection, which includes five upholstery and three drapery patterns in various colorways, is touted on Knoll's website as "an abstract translation" of Rodarte's runway looks from the last five years. There's Auden, inspired by Rodarte's hand dyed ombré gowns from Spring/Summer 2009; Whitman, a heavy-textured wool reminiscent (or so they say) of Rodarte's knit dresses from Fall/Winter 2009; and for draperies, there's Emerson, sequined and beaded sheers. How poetic.
The question is, how would Mies, a renown minimalist, feel about all the fuss?
