New York Music News Update

As we mentioned earlier today, Tuesday is record store day which means there is generally a lot of music news circulating the internet. But for now let’s cut through the fat and focus on what is happening with some hometown artists.

Today marks the release of Down On The Bikini Line by everyone’s favorite Brooklyn based outlaw Jonny Corndawg. To celebrate, Corndawg is offering everyone a chance to stream the entire record courtesy of Paste Magazine. Buy him a Coca-Cola tonight when he celebrates the releasee at Union Pool or when he sweeps back through the city on November 17 at Bowery Ballroom with Trampled By Turtles.

Speaking of steaming albums, I would highly recommend you take a listen to Headspace which is the latest offering by the recent New York via Southern California transplants We Barbarians. The five-song EP is just a small taste of these up-and-comers' abilities. They play an inspired live show which you can check out on August 31 at Mercury Lounge with Kanine Records power-duo Pepper Rabbit.

Moving along, we would like to extend congratulations to local band Oberhofer who recently signed to Glassnote Records which is home to successful artists like Phoenix, Two Door Cinema Club and Mumford & Sons. The band plans to release their highly anticipated debut album in early 2012, but in the meantime you can pick up a copy of the band’s recently released 7 inch and various singles.  You can see Oberhofer live on September 6 when they join Les Savy Fav in wishing Music Hall of Williamsburg a happy 4th anniversary.

Another relatively new local band making some waves is the boys of Caveman that has spent the last week distributing songs from their upcoming release to various online outlets. On September 13 fans will be able to score a digital copy of their awesomely debut CoCo Beware, but until that time they can download a number of new tracks to tide them over. Catch Caveman on September 15 when they celebrate the release of the new record at Mercury Lounge.

On a more bizarre note, check out this odd video by the folks in Neon Indian. The spoof advertisement is for the PAL198X which is a custom made synth that comes as part of a pre-sale package that includes Neon Indian's new album Era Extrana (Mom + Pop) due out September 13. New Yorkers can catch the band on October 21 when they pull into Webster Hall for a show during the citywide CMJ Music Marathon.
