It's been approximately two weeks since the "Growers" of Mustaches for Kids began their annual charitable facial hair marathon, benefiting the wishes of public school teachers around the city. Thursday marks the last time the group meets at a check-point (read: bar) to discuss mustaches before their final 'Stash Bash next week at the Galapogos Art Space in Dumbo, Brooklyn.
The 'Stash Bash is said to be a beauty pageant for mustaches - complete with a "battery of physical, intellectual, and emotional challenges, including the Mustache Haiku, the Wet Mustache Contest, and the Beer Foam Retention Test." These so-called skills are then evaluated by a panel of judges, which then choose one Mustache as the "sweetest." The Bash itself is open to the public, and tickets are only $20, available at the all new Dumbo-ized Galapagos Art Space, or online at SmartTix.
Just this past week, the Growers of New York City surpassed Charlotte, North Carolina for the lead in fundraising totals, which is $1,000 away from surpassing $30,000! The Mustache money is raised through DonorsChoose.org, a " registered 501(c)(3) charity that provides funding for teacher-submitted projects to improve New York's public schools one classroom at a time."
