Who: Long before the current recasting of brass bombast as cool, the Rebirth Brass Band was doing their thing in the Tremé in New Orleans: Infusing old-school second-line sounds with funk and plenty else. The nearly 30-year-old NOLA institution has a new album, Rebirth of New Orleans, set to come out on April 12 on Basin Street Records, and a tour that’s taking them down under in March and to Brooklyn Bowl on April 7. In the spirit of Mardi Gras, they’re offering up a track off the album this week.
