MpFree: “Map of Tasmania” – Amanda Palmer

The unstoppable Amanda Palmer penned and recorded a bunch of material on a tour through Australia and New Zealand for her newest solo project, Amanda Palmer Goes Down Under, which also includes some special tributes in the form of covers of songs by Nick Cave and New Zealand’s Peter Jefferies. Since liberating herself from her label overlords last year, the Dresden Doll has embraced pay-what-you-want music distribution—her recent album of Radiohead covers on the ukulele famously raised $15,000 in three minutes of sales when it dropped via Bandcamp—and this Antipodean-themed album (out in full January 21) will be sold via the same model. Love that.

Meanwhile, get your mitts on a preview the sweetly bawdy Map of Tasmania, a sort of reggae-inflected, electro-tinged ditty about a lady’s, ah, southern hemisphere. Video of Palmer performing it last February at the Brisbane Hotel in Hobart, Australia below, plus a just-out download of the studio track, featuring Brit electro outfit the Young Punx
