MpFree: Datarock's ‘Catcher in the Rye' @ Santos in March

This catchy-as-crabs new single from Norway’s dance rock-new wave outfit sounds, especially in the chorus, custom-made for a John Hughes movie montage. Naturally, this makes us love it. Download it free below and prep your moves for the band’s next New York show, set for Monday, March 7 at Santos Party House (7:30PM, $15, tickets available via Ticketweb).

Catcher in the Rye’ is being modestly touted by the band as the “most extravagant single in history,” because it’ll be included in a super high-concept USB package available that includes 110 tracks, 1500 photos taken at their shows in 33 countries, 20 music videos, and Never Say Die, the new hour-long Datarock concert film, all stored inside a specially-designed vinyl toy. The package lands at select retailers starting March 21 (info on where to get it will be on their Twitter feed), but you'll also be able to download their new music as a much less extravagant 5-track EP from your favorite digital retailer.

Datarock’s Fredrik Saroea told SPIN that he had J.D. Salinger’s novel on the brain when he wrote the new song “in the voice of Holden Caulfield.”
