Mos Def to Headline Fort Greene Fest

Last year’s Fort Greene Festival was one of the most hands-down fun blips in the 2010 summer show lineup (Common, Q-Tip and Soulive topped the billing), with more than 15,000 partiers crowding Fort Greene Park.

So the 2011 re-up was already on our calendar, and finding out that (Bed-Stuy’s own!) Mos Def is headlining the Fest just sweetens the deal.

The 3rd Annual Fort Greene Festival takes place Saturday, June 25, with a full day of free fun from noon to 10 p.m.

Mos Def is planning a busy summer in his hometown: He’s also slated to play Rock the Bells on Governors Island Sept. 3, where he’ll join forces with Talib Kweli as Black Star, playing their debut self-titled album in its entirety.

Brooklynite (Bushwickite, to be specific) Rosie Perez returns to host what’s been described as an “urban Woodstock” along with writer/talking head/Fort Greene dweller Toure.

Other acts on tap for the non-profit event include Sophia Urista, Navegante and Lifted Crew. Aside from the music — and in keeping with the Fest’s mandate of “celebrating the culture, cuisine and artistic diversity of Brooklyn" -- plenty of neighborhood mainstays will be on hand to feed you, with tables from the likes of Rice, Brooklyn Moon and the General Greene.
