Leonardo DiCaprio's Grandmother Passes Away In Germany

Leonardo DiCaprio’s beloved grandmother has passed away.

Helene Indenbirken, who “The Departed” star knew better as “Oma,” was 93. She died in a hospital on Monday in Recklinghausen, near her hometown of Oer-Erkenschwick, town spokesman Peter Raudszus told The Associated Press on Wednesday.

Indenbirken, who was born in Oer-Erkenschwick, returned to the western German town in 1983 after immigrating to the U.S. The actor often visited his grandmother. He once reportedly brought her to the German premiere of his 2004 film “The Aviator.”

DiCaprio also happily used his celebrity status to benefit Indenbirken.

“The best is being able to go to a clothing designer and get my Grandma a cashmere coat for free,” he previously told Access Hollywood. “That’s pretty cool.”
