Kings of Leon Documentary Makes Tribeca Film Festival

A begrudgingly fascinating success story of mainstream rock, Kings of Leon went from preacher’s sons to mainstage festival mainstays (and overpriced apparel-peddlers) in a scant ten years. And sure the band’s music slid from pretty-good blues to watered-down alt rock across that decade; but that journey from pious pipsqueaks to industry giants kept us watching.

In "Talihina Sky," the new documentary directed by Stephen C. Mitchell, the band’s personal life is revealed in new detail. It looks like a rock ‘n’ roll counterpoint to the 2006 doc, Jesus Camp: the Talihina Sky trailer, embedded below, includes plenty of nude asses, a few moments of puke, tons of smoke in the face and never-before-conducted interviews with the band’s father, Ivan Leon (surprise: he thinks the blasphemous blueshounds are going to hell).

An unfinished version of the film premiers later this month at the Tribeca Film Festival, running from April 20-May 1.  See the trailer below.  (Warning: it contains a few curses.)
