Katie Holmes Hearts New York

She's back — or soon will be. Katie Holmes signed on to star in the film "The Extra Man," which should start shooting in February, or may already be shooting depending on whom you ask. The movie, which is based on Jonathan Ames' novel of the same name, features Kevin Kline as a down-his-knees...er...luck playwright who makes a living as an escort to the wealthy women of the Upper East Side. There are no details of shooting confirmed, but it seems inconceivable that Brooklyn-based Ames' New York novel could be shot elsewhere. Then again, Hollywood excels at inconceivable.

So Katie, who recently wrapped a successful run in the play "All My Sons," should be winging her way back to Gotham. Coincidence or not, it seems that Holmes is fond of the Big Apple. Perhaps she wants to set up something more permanent this trip and stay a while. Might we humbly suggest the deeply discounted duplex and penthouse at Julian Schnabel's Palazzo Chupi? As the Observer calculated, this can be now be gotten at a recession special savings of about $18 million — for a rock bottom price of $41 million.
