It's been just over a year since folk icon Kate McGarrigle--sister of Anna McGarrigle, mother of Rufus and Martha Wainwright--lost her battle with a rare form of cancer at the age of 63. In a fitting tribute, her family is bringing a packed marquee of performers to the Town Hall for two nights of tributes on May 12 and 13.

As of now, the lineup for the shows (curated by Joe Boyd) includes Martha, Rufus and Kate, plus Jimmy Fallon, Emmylou Harris, Antony of Antony and the Johnsons, Krystle Warren, Teddy Thompson and Justin Bond. Expect plenty more names to get added to this roster between now and May.

The Town Hall dates mark the first North American tribute show for McGarrigle. Tickets to last June's all-star gathering at London's Royal Festival Hall sold out within hours.

In conjunction with the shows, Nonesuch Records is planning to release a new edition of Kate & Anna McGarrigle's first two albums.

From the release:

Kate McGarrigle was diagnosed in 2006 with a rare form of cancer known as Sarcoma, which affects connective tissue such as bone, muscle, nerves and cartilage. She lost her battle in January of 2010, age 63, surrounded by a singing group of family and friends at her home in Montreal. All profits from these shows will go toward the creation of the Kate McGarrigle Sarcoma Research Fund in association with the Sarcoma Foundation of America (SFA).

The performers will be accompanied by a band very familiar with Kate’s catalog, including Thomas Bartlett on piano, Jane McGarrigle on piano, Calum MacColl on guitar, Anna McGarrigle on piano and accordion, Brad Albetta on bass, Bryan Devendorf on drums, Michel Pepin on guitar, Chaim Tannenbaum on mandolin and banjo and Joel Zifkin on violin (the last three regular members of Kate & Anna’s touring group).

A Celebration of the Music of Kate McGarrigle, May 12 and 13, 2011 at the Town Hall, 123 West 43 Street; 212-840-2824. Tickets $40-$75, available online at ticketmaster.com, through Ticketmaster by phone at 800-745-3000, and in person at the Town Hall box office beginning on April 21).
