Jewelry Gets Creative to Stay Afloat

As many sectors of the fashion industry go back to basics with an economy in downturn, jewelry is really getting inventive in an effort to maintain its sparkle

Following the news that smaller, independent jewelers are sadly struggling to stay alive, the JA NY summer jewelry trade show proved that per usual, the world of baubles and bling can truly buck the trend when it comes to spending.  Classic pieces are being shunned in favor of alternative -- often more cost-effective, but still top quality -- materials, inventive designs and unusual costume pieces.  As sources of influence stretch across the globe, the definition of special expands as well, and it appears as though consumers' tastes are veering toward the truly distinct.

Those classic pearls better watch out: It looks like it's the filigree bangles that are carrying the team.
