This we can get behind: local singer/songwriter Jennifer O’Connor, of 2008’s gorgeous Here With Me (Matador), is hosting a new monthly series at Brooklyn’s the Rock Shop. Dubbed Tower of Song, the special residency shows will be held on the second Tuesday of every month.
Explains Jennifer (via Brooklyn Vegan):
Each month I will invite three other songwriter's to join me and we will get together at the Rock Shop and each play a handful of songs and talk about our songwriting processes a little bit and collaborate and maybe play a cover or two. I think it's going to make for a really interesting night of music, especially for those interested in the "song" as an art form and maybe learning about how different folks write. I, for one, am totally excited to see what comes from it."
So are we; O’Connor’s solo material addresses love and loss with truly affecting intimacy, and she’s long been a fixture in the Brooklyn songwriters scene. She’s currently working on a new record and will perform at each Tower of Song; the first installment is tomorrow, January 11, and features Amy Bezunartea, Chris Brokaw, and Tim Foljahn. The February 8th show welcomes Charles Bissell of the Wrens, Richard Baluyut, and Kendall Meade.
