Indie Music Fest CMJ Kicks Off Tuesday in NYC

The CMJ music marathon returns Tuesday night for its annual week-long showcase of up-and-coming indie bands. The festivities kick-off tonight an opening night party followed by a whole slew of shows across the city. Terminal 5 will host the "Louis XIV - Hilfiger Sessions Opening Night Party at CMJ", featuring Young Lords and Nathaniel Hoho at 7. For a schedule of Tuesday night's shows, click over to CMJ.

While it's definitely a challenge to cut through the clutter, a handful of local music and culture blogs have thrown together their recommended shows lists to help out. Brooklyn Based posted their "Must See CMJ" article today, featuring shows with The Vivian Girls, Monotonix, Bel Air, and "Brooklyn-by-way-of-Ukraine folk-punk chanteuse" Alina Simone. FREEwilliamsburg posted two CMJ previews (part 1, part 2), and music blog Ear Farm is featuring their day by day, hour by hour CMJ guide all week long.

Tuesday night, popular music blog Brooklyn Vegan is hosting its very own showcase at the Music Hall of Williamsburg, with bands such as Passion Pit, Ponytail, Shearwater and Singing DJ Jens Lekman.

One of the event sponsors Zune even threw together a nice little micro-site, featuring a live market place, mix-tapes, a "Zune Zine", and its own showcase at the Bowery Ballroom.
