Hot Ticket: Justin Bond's Christmas Spells

This holiday romp stuffs your stocking with dark treats starting December 9

Naturally, when you leave the business of a holiday special up to downtown performance artist Justin Bond, you don’t get blinky-nosed reindeer and fat men in red suits. He’s returning to the Abrons Arts Center with a heartwarming tale that takes the “virgin” out of Virgin Mary. From the release:

This year it's Christmas in the Brothel with Justin Bond and The Pixie Harlots as they return to the Abrons Arts Center in Christmas Spells --a Trans-Voodoo Extravaganza consisting of original songs, Christmas ditties, dances and more. Adapted from a short story entitled "Dixie Belle" by playwright, author and gender theorist Kate Bornstein, Justin will be playing the beloved Mark Twain character, Huckleberry Finn, who is now working in a New Orleans whore house as Sassy Sarah. It's Christmas Eve 1865 and Miss Sarah and the Ladies of Miss Violette's Parlour of Elysian Delights are throwing a Christmas Eve Hullabaloo in the Frenchy Quarter. After all the party quests have been sloshed, sluiced and sated, Sarah sits down to write a letter to her old friend Tom Sawyer and boy does she have some surprises in store for him!

While we’re more than a little crushed to learn Bond – named one of Paper Magazine’s 50 Most Beautiful People in NYC! -- won’t be performing with the Wainwright-McGarrigle crew in their traditional all-star holiday show (what with it having been moved to London this year – thanks for nothing, Rufus!), we’ll take our Bond where we can get him/her.
