Gimmick du Jour: 100 Mini-Sandwiches

That restaurant going in next Bar Reis on Fifth Ave. in Park Slope? Soon, it’ll serve 100 varieties of mini-sandwich.

We can’t pinpoint when exactly everything started to mini-ize – cupcakes, burgers, tacos – but we’ll certainly remember the watershed moment of the shrinking sandwich: Next Thursday, the owner of Park Slope’s Bar Reis is cutting the ribbon on a shop next to his bar (where there used to be one of those crazy depressing hair salons) where he’ll serve 100 varieties of one-(or two-) bite sammies at Reis 100 Sandwich Factory.

According to Grub Street, the goods’ll be stuffed into baguettes from respectable Caputo Bakery and will run you $3.50 (for teeny riffs on classics like the BLT) to $5 each (which gets you fillings like house duck pâté). Reis Goldberg says he’s inspired by a joint in Spain with a 100-sandwich angle. And if it’s good enough for Spain, it’s good enough for Fifth Avenue. (Now if he could only get rid of that ridiculously oversized flat-screen TV at the otherwise mellow Bar Reis.)

Reis 100 Sandwich Factory, 375-B Fifth Avenue near 6th Street; Park Slope, Brooklyn. No phone yet.
