Get Ready for Cheesetastic Stink-Fest '09

Eat cheese for fun (or sport -– seriously, there’s a Cheese-Eating Competition) this Sunday, when the annual Stink-Fest wafts down Cobble Hill’s Smith Street

Join wine purveyors Smith & Vine and cheesemongers Stinky Brooklyn for the annual Stink-Fest, part of Cobble Hill’s Smith Street Sunday Funday. There’ll be wine and cheese sampling galore, and at 2pm, 30+ eaters will compete to see who can down the most Cantalet the fastest. Last year, Will "The Champ" Millender inhaled 14.9 oz of cheese in less than 2 minutes.

The contest is open to all (you’ll need to register beforehand at 718-522-7425) and capped at 30 entrants (there are still a couple of slots left!). To participate, be prepared to sign a waiver “claiming all responsibility should your cholesterol level exceed dangerous levels. Or if you just hurl. Either way, it's your fault.” Got that? Also, there's no prize. Well, there are bragging right. And a Stinky Bklyn gift basket, because that's what you'll want at that point: more cheese.

For those who’d rather do their cheese-eating at their own pace, there’ll also be lots of great live music, courtesy of the 1920s-reviving Dreamland Orchestra and the raucous Stumblebum Brass Band, among others. Because old jazz goes really well with cheese.
