Get a Room! Ace Hotel Strikes At Lobby Loafers

This Is going To Be Big

There are a times when a plan can work a little too well. The Ace Hotel hoped to make itself a destination on a desolate and uncharming part of midtown. And what do you know? It worked. Now the hotel wants its new fans to go away.

People have come in droves, lured by the cozy confines and easy access to Stumptown coffee. Particularly officeless techie entrepreneurs trying to jump start dotcom engines like they were yanking on a lawn mower pull start. With insider aplomb, blogger ceonyc (actually blogging from the Ace at the time and sitting within "spitting distance" of Malcolm Gladwell) attributes the problem to "a long study hall style table, comfortable couches, and wifi whose codes are the worst kept secret since USV’s Foursquare funding."

The relationship was bound to go sour. Tuesday, the Ace began distributing cards around the lobby which read "Get a Room! These seats are reserved for hotel guests only."

At night the Ace has been a certain kind of madhouse (expect this only to get worse with the opening of the Breslin for dinner Tuesday night.), but it seems the crowds are a round-the-clock-fixture.
