Brooklyn Borough President Marty Markowitz and New York City Department of Health officials are celebrating the citywide BigAppleRx card Wednesday afternoon, while giving out the free cards.

The BigAppleRx card was launched in May and offers discounts on brand name and generic medications as well as some over-the-counter medications, including diabetes supplies.

On average, the card provides savings of 47 percent on prescription medications; 15 percent on brand name drugs and 53 percent on generic drugs.

Thousands of pharmacies are participating; go here to find those closest to you.

Markowitz will be at 552 Fulton St. between 1 and 2 p.m. Wednesday to hand out cards.

“With an increasing demand for quality, affordable health care, BigAppleRx helps ensure that discounts are available for life-improving -- and life-sustaining -- prescription drugs,” Markowitz said in a statement.
