What to Eat at the Blue Parrot in East Hampton

Though Ron Perelman’s Blue Parrot has been soft-open for two weeks, it wasn’t until summer officially started last weekend that the marquee diners showed up. The East Hampton space hasn’t changed much from its last incarnation, which closed in 2006.

“Everyone says it’s the same bones, only cleaner,” said one manager on Saturday night.

The dining room was crowded and Rachel Zoe and her husband read “We don’t want to bother you” notes passed by college girls and prep-school grads. A small serving of shrimp seviche was not worth $16, but the chipotle guacamole ($12) and the strong Dirty Bird Margarita ($9), served in a salt-lined mason jar, made up for it. Martha Stewart had a good time at the Blue Parrot on Friday night, she told us later at a Ross School benefit in her honor.

“The food was surprisingly good,” she said, describing the Blue Parrot as “a joint.” But sometimes even Martha needs to drink booze from a jar: “I’ve been going to the Blue Parrot for eighteen years, so I’m very happy that it’s there.” The restaurant is now open on weekdays, but leave your wireless device at home. “BlackBerrys and guacamole don’t mix,” the menu admonishes. “No texting por favor.”
