New in Outdoor Drinking

Bar 30, Standard’s Beer Garden, Der Schwarze Kölner

Here’s the latest in alfresco boozing: UrbanDaddy reports, and a drive-by confirms, that the Standard has quietly opened its beer garden, complete with a Ping-Pong table (with Water Taxi Beach South Street Seaport’s table tennis, two is officially a trend!).

But don’t roll your sleeves up for sausages just yet: Though the patio is open from 4 p.m. till midnight Sundays through Thursdays and from 3 p.m. till 1 a.m. on Fridays and Saturdays, it won’t open fully (i.e. with food, an official name, and a second bar) until late September.

Meanwhile, the Local reports that Fort Greene’s Der Schwarze Kölner has also semi-opened, and Eater has interior shots as well as a word on the menu: “They’re serving eighteen German-only draft beers, from $4 to $16, along with bratwurst, pretzels, cheese platters, and pickles.” Unfortunately, the outdoor space is still under construction.

Finally, not a beer garden but a seasonal drinking spot nonetheless — the 50-seat pop-up café pictured above and below, Bar 30, has opened on Rockefeller Plaza, and will stay open through September 4 from 11 a.m. till 10 p.m. daily. It will serve lunch, dinner, and cocktails from Rock Center Café (see menu here), then it will switch to a menu from AJ Maxwell’s.
