Fashion's Night Out in the West Village

The Village threw a bona-fide block party in honor of Fashion's Night Out, with Teen Vogue, Taylor Momsen and the FNO Barbie girls rocking the house on Perry, while shops all up and down Bleecker and beyond got in the festive mood with booze, balloons, candy apples and everyone's favorites: discounts!

It had been a long first day of Fashion Week, but as soon as we got close to the West Village (we may or may not have taken a cab from Milk 10 blocks north, but our adorbs new shoes insisted), moods were lifted with pumping music, a pink sunset, and rows of shop doors thrown open to happy wandering shoppers.  Teen Vogue laid a runway right down Perry Street, and after a fun public fashion show, Taylor Momsen (AKA Gossip Girl's Jenny Humphrey, AKA Little J), took to the stage with her band.  She's seriously good!  After chilling for a bit, street-style, it was time to make our rounds.

First up, Cynthia Rowley, which brought us back to our tenth birthday party because of the deft ballon animal-maker set up across from his life-size balloon gorilla in the racks.  With a whole night to go, Miss Thread gracefully declined a glass of champagne and as it happens, that was good thing given the free flow of bubbly in the shops - moderation was key.

Next, Ralph Lauren for a (gasp) glimpse of Argentine polo player, Polo model and total hottie, Nacho Figueras.  The crowd that gathered outside the designer's classic boutique was a posh one - there was even an infant whose outfit was killer.  A teensy, tiny peek at Nacho was all we could get given the man's team of six (six!) security men.  For a distinct change of scenery, we sauntered on down to Rag & Bone's men's shop on Christopher.  "Impromptu Irish Pub" seems like a quaint concept-y idea for an event like this, but not surprisingly, the r&b folks seriously made the store feel like a bar.  No frills, just an Irish flag, beer and as many people as could cram into the place.  And finally, Marc Jacobs had a handsome team shilling shirts for charity, commemorative photograph included.

The down-home celebration would not have been complete without a charming little Hide and Seek Scavenger Hunt.  Seventeen clues for 17 stores, and once you walked around and ticked every one off your list, you won a prize.  Stay tuned on what that was, because yours truly did not win....

In the end, the night was best summarized by the portly on-duty police officer on Bleecker who looked around and gleefully exclaimed, "this fashion thing is pretty awesome!"  Pretty awesome indeed.
