Eat It: The 100-Mile Menu

Plus Lucy Browne’s all-American, and a Mermaid Inn may wash up on MacDougal

LA VIDA LOCAVORE: What is the 100 Mile Menu? It’s a meal prepared using ingredients that were farmed, fished or dug up within 100 miles of your fork. At 620 Loft and Garden on the Top of the Rock tomorrow (Wednesday) night -- expect a farm-to-table smorgasbord (we smell pork belly) as well as some edutainment courtesy of folks involved in the locavore world around NYC, courtesy of Edible Manhattan magazine and Great Performances catering.  [tickets and more]

PEACEFUL TAKEOVER: Steak Frites at Varick and Houston is no more, but its new incarnation as Lucy Browne’s is run by the same people and will even serve the same burger -- the Big O. Stop by tonight and toast to its success: For the grand opening party, Shmaltz Brewing Company will be pouring complimentary Mermaid Pilsner. [more]

BIRD IS COOKED: Tear. There’ll be no more $35 chicken dinners for two at Smith’s on MacDougal: The joint’s closed. But! There’s something of an upside: The space could reopen as an outpost of the Mermaid Inn. [more]
