Blues legend Dr. John will finally get inducted to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame this year. But don't think that 71-year old Malcolm Rebennack will use this as an excuse to slow down, as he's going to be a busy as ever this year.
The Brooklyn Academy of Music will host a three-week-long event titled "Dr. John: Insides Out," which will pay tribute to the New Orleans boogie-woogie polyglot in three different installments.
The first set, "A Louis Armstrong," will run from March 29 through March 31, and will see Dr. John pay tribute to an even more venerable blues legend, the iconic Louis Armstrong.
The second, "Locked Down," will run from April 5 through April 7.
For this set Dr. John and his band will perform songs from Locked Down, the album he cut last year with producer, fan and Black Keys frontman Dan Auerbach. Auerbach will take time off from constantly playing Madison Square Garden to sit in. Locked Down will be released via Nonesuch on April 3.
Finally, BAM will cap this run off with "Funky But It's Nu Awlins" on April 12 through April 14. The Blind Boys of Alabama will drop by, and it will get nasty.
