The Upper East Side may be crawling with glassy new condo towers, but The Charles has something The Lucida or Georgica or Isis does not: David Collins. The classy interior designer has tackled numerous hotels, restaurants and private residences, mostly in Europe—though he did The London Hotel in NYC—and this is his first ever "residential collection." Name brand designers don't come cheap, hence the $2 million starting price on these 1-4BR units, which mostly range in size from 983 to 3,209 square feet. The blockbuster is the triplex penthouse, with over 6,700sqft of living space and 1,467sqft in outdoor terraces. Amenities include a "Skylight Pool," gym, drawing room, library, children's play room, screening room, wine storage and gardens. The building has a limestone base, but this project is top heavy; it's those East River views that should have buyers singing "Take Me Home." The sales office (405 East 75th St.) officially opens tomorrow, and the building is expected to open in spring 2010. Expect listings to pop up online soon. For more stories from Curbed, go to curbed.com.
