David Byrne Kicking Off Celebrate Brooklyn

Talking Heads founder to play free Prospect Park show

David Byrne, who helped lay the foundation for indie rock more than 30 years in the Lower East Side, is bringing his current world tour to Brooklyn this summer.

The "Songs of David Byrne and Brian Eno" tour will be making a visit to the Prospect Park Bandshell on June 8 as the opening act for this season's Celebrate Brooklyn! festival.

The show, slated to start at 8 p.m., is free, but $3 donations are suggested to help cover the costs of maintenance.

Preceding the concert will be the Green Gala fundraiser, "an exciting eco-friendly evening with a zero waste goal that launches other green initiatives … to reduce the Festival’s environmental impact and to promote eco-friendly practices."

Tickets for the gala to support BRIC Arts start at $325 and include admission to a dance party following the concert.

Other acts performing this summer include MGMT, Jackson Browne and Animal Collective. The full line-up will be announced May 4.
