UNDERGROUND FILM: Tribeca Cinemas Presents: Doc Series kicks off its spring program of cult documentary films (playing every other Monday night) with “Dark Days,” the gripping 2000 doc about the homeless population living – and sometimes even thriving -- in tunnels under the streets of New York. Director Marc Singer will be on hand to discuss his award-winning film on the occasion of its 10th anniversary. Watch the trailer here. 7:30PM.
HORN-Y: It’s worth noting – especially as a warm, hint-of-spring weekend gives way to more endless, dreary cold – that Monday night at Taj Lounge means tearing up the floor to earth-shaking brass with live salsa from the likes of Willy’s NYC Salsa Project. Also, $5 Mojitos.7PM, or come a half-hour early for salsa lessons.
TEACHABLE MOMENT: Don’t call the cops if you see literary giant and American Historian Henry Louis Gates, Jr. entering the Barnes & Noble at 86th & Lex – he’s just there to give a talk on “Iola Leroy,” the groundbreaking 19th-century novel about a mixed-race woman forced into slavery, as part of the store’s Writers on Writers series. 7PM.
