Curbed PriceChopper: Spike Lee's Firehouse Gets the Axe

Then: $6,000,000
Now: $4,900,000
You Save!: $1,100,000!

A big fire axe of a PriceChopper has landed on Spike Lee's former headquarters in Fort Greene. The size of the Chop is huge, a $1.1 million hunk from what is said to have been an original $6 million asking price. (It was most recently listed in the Curbed Marketplace for $5.8 million, but what's a couple of hundred thousand in this context?) The building at 124 DeKalb Ave. in Fort Greene was home to Spike Lee's film company, 40 Acres and a Mule, for two decades. The 19th-century ex-firehouse is being sold as a two-unit residence. The top one is a 1,500-square-foot 1BR loft. The bottom one is a 2,000-square-foot 2BR loft. Accouterments include oak details, huge windows, spiral staircases, roof deck and celebrity history.
