FLAnk's Bowery Hotel is a Real Humdinger

FLAnk Architects' 250 Bowery project was intended to be New York's first green hotel, combining a number of eco-friendly technologies into a package wrapped in perforated Corten steel. Heck, it still might be all of those things some day, but the site hasn't been touched in months. But given its hippie history, we couldn't help but smirk as we happened by the Lower East Side site today and noticed what lurked behind the open plywood gate: a Hummer SUV, parked mere feet from a 50-foot dropoff into the bowels of this Bowery pit. Other than the gas-guzzler, not much has changed at 250 Bowery. There was not a soul to be seen. Will Lord Norm's planned gallery building across the street beat it to the finish line?
