Carroll Gardens Hell Building Still Hellish

Looking for a good South Brooklyn Halloween-related development story? Look no further than the infamous Carroll Gardens Hell Building. You remember that one. It's the one a reader named because of the hell during its early development that left the neighborhood coated in white power after enduring hellish noise. Then, work on the Robert Scarano-designed building, which features an impressive top-side tumor, was brought to a halt. Current status: Nothing doing. Mr. Scarano's steel frame tumor still sits atop the thing, visible from a great distance. Per today's Daily News: "The result is a messy construction site with no major work going on for more than a year and a half - and neighbors fear it will remain an eyesore for months to come." One resident says (surprise) "It's like a tumor...it's just an ugly thing." Mr. Scarano was removed from the building in January and work had been stopped because the architect "inaccurately claimed the building was zoned to allow for the additional stories." No word on whether the tumor will remain or go. In the meantime, here's looking at the steel.
