Redevelopment Stalled in Red Hook

There were big plans for Pier 11 in Red Hook: a marina to accommodate luxury yachts, restaurants, a hotel and entertainment complex, maybe a public beach. Now the plan is... well, there's no plan. The Brooklyn Paper reported yesterday that the city's Economic Development Corp has rejected every proposal submitted by developers to reinvent the area. What was wrong with those proposals? Well, we don't know. EDC spokeswoman Janel Patterson told the NY Post, "We are looking at other options now on what is the best use of the pier," and to the Brooklyn Paper she replied, “None of the proposals met our criteria.” Since we don't know what their criteria are, we thought we'd ask you: what would you put there?
