Plans Revealed for Philharmonic's Degraw Street Firehouse

After much delay and hand-wringing, the Brooklyn Philharmonic was handed the defunct Engine 204 firehouse at 299 Degraw Street in Cobble Hill last May as its new headquarters. Now, reports Globe Street and The Times, the non-profit has revealed its plans for the 19th Century building: HOK architects plan to preserve the facade while gutting the 4,250-square-foot interior to create a "multi-purpose space for performances, meetings, lectures, and other community uses on the ground floor, along with a music rehearsal area." The philharmonic's main performance space will remain at BAM. The renovation is expected to cost $2,600,000 and to begin this summer. GMAP
