Closing Bell: Farewell Pop-Up Park

Some 190,000 visitors from 440 zip codes stopped by the temporary "pop-up park" at Pier 1 this summer, on the site of the future Brooklyn Bridge Park. The 26,000-square-foot site stood for 13 and a half weeks, a little longer than intended (it was supposed to close on Labor Day but folks just weren't letting it go). Since we're on the topic of deconstruction today, some elements of the park will be reused in the real park when it comes, and around Dumbo now: some sod and perennials will be replanted and some benches moved to the nearby dog run. Don't feel too sad about the end of pop-up; after it closes, construction on the new park begins.
