A well-liked Bronx teacher has been reassigned after reports surf faced that she worked as a prostitute on Craigslist before taking up art education in a Claremont elementary school.
The teacher, identified as 30-year-old Melissa Petro of P.S. 70, blogged extensively about her exploits on HuffingtonPost and various other online communities.
"From October 2006 to January 2007, I accepted money in exchange for sexual services I provided to men I met online in what was then called the 'erotic services' section of Craigslist.org," the NY Post quotes Petro from a blog posted earlier this month.
Petro has worked as an art teacher at P.S. 70 for three years, according to the New York Post.
In her post, Petro -- who used the same name online as she did in the classroom -- writes "I was at the time: a graduate student, bored and curious, sexually uninhibited, looking to make a little money while having a little fun. I wrote my own ads, screened my own prospective dates, decided on my own what I would and would not do for money, and -- best of all -- I kept every penny I earned, all without the interference of an agency or other ubiquitous "middle man."
Petro wrote so brazenly about her exploits --even identifying herself as a former sex worker, that many are asking how it took so long for school officials to uncover her past.
