We're not big fans of the recession. Really, who is? But we are fans of all the resulting markdowns that we would never see in a time of lush overspending. And this week, it seems like bargains are really revving up. Barneys New York is having its designer sale, marking 40 percent off spring collections. We've cruised the store's site for days now, and so far we've spotted shoes by Yves Saint Laurent, Prada, Christian Louboutin, and Manolo Blahnik, as well as clothes by 3.1 phillip lim and Lanvin for Acne, and handbags by Marc by Marc Jacobs and Gucci. And some of the stuff we picked out yesterday isn't even available today, while other things we saw plunged even further down in price overnight. Bottom line: In the height of sale season, if you see something you want, snag it. Here are our top picks.

Why we like it: Yves Saint Laurent's cage booties have been featured in almost every editorial since they hit the spring 2009 runway. But now you can buy them, because though they're still pricey, they're not full price.
