All Hail the People's Pops Pop-Up

Starting today, handmade popsicles come to Battery Park. (Now if only we could get some popsicle weather, already.)

Here's a fun fact for you: As of right now, it's rained 18 out of 22 days in June. Ahh, summer. Summer, which is supposed to be about your flip-flops fusing with the hot asphalt and reapplying sunscreen before you head out to block parties and all-day food festivals. Not cool, weather gods. Not cool at all.

But sunny weather or no sunny weather, we must push on with our summer rituals, and that includes popsicles. In previous years we contented ourselves with a pineapple FrozFruit from the deli or a fistful of Italian ices (yes, we know those aren't popsicles per se), but this year we're all about the People's Pops, the handmade, all-organic-ingredient-stuffed pops made by Nathalie Jordi, David Carrell, and Joel Horowitz and sold (until now) mostly at the Brooklyn Flea. But as Grub Street noted, starting today, The PP gang will man a pop-up at Battery Park "across from 17 State Street, near Pearl Street, every weekday from 12:30 p.m. till supplies run out." The debut pop flavors (they change with whatever's at the market) include fresh strawberry and organic cream and super-sweet upstate rhubarb, and they'll also be making shave ice in organic lemon and black mint and 'rhubarbaliciousness!'
