Three Zoos Announce Admission Hikes

Plus: Bronx Zoo adds sleepover dates

Despite the porcupine layoff, admission at some city zoos will rise as of March, NY1 reports.

Central Park adult admission will rise to $10 from $8; while Prospect Park Zoo an Queens Zoo admission will rise to $7 from $6.

Most of the city's zoos are owned by the Parks Department but managed by the Wildlife Conservation Society. Whenever there is shortfall between revenue and operating costs, the city is required to pay the difference to WCS, according to NY1. This year, the difference was $10 million.

And it could get worse. Later this week, WCS, Brooklyn Botanic Garden , the Center for the Urban Environment and elected officials are planning a rally to denounce the elimination of state funding for zoos, aquariums and botanical gardens.

But as for some good news about a city zoo, NewYorkology reports that reservations are open for Bronx Zoo family sleepovers. You need to bring your own tent but you will indeed be allowed to talk with the animals, squawk with the animals, all night long.
