8/29-30: Spike Lee's Epic MJ Birthday Bash

…takes over Prospect park, plus Union Square goes Med and the Charlie Parker Jazz Festival

FIELD OF DREAMS: Spike Lee’s Brooklyn birthday party for Michael Jackson has been moved to Prospect Park to accommodate an estimated 10,000 attendees. DJ Spinna will lead what is possibly the biggest all-MJ danceathon since the man himself played stadium concerts. Nethermead Meadow, Saturday, 12-5PM.

CLUB MED: Sabra – makers of the smoothest, tastiest hummus at your grocer’s – are turning Union Square into a Mediterranean village on Sunday, with a smorgasbord of tastings, plus live music, cooking demos, and a fully recreated piazza café. 11AM.

SOUL REVIVAL: Night 2 the Brooklyn Soul Festival – old-school soul from young and old notables working in the genre today – features the legendary Otis Clay, Maxine Brown of ’60s trio The Browns, and NYC’s own Sweet Divines, a trio of ladies who are rejuvenating the genre one harmony at a time. Bell House, Saturday, 8PM.

STEAK OUT: If your idea of brunch is muffins and pancakes, skip to the next item. But if, say, an all-you-can-meat feast of chorizo, skirt steak, blood sausage, short ribs and more ($21.99), sister restos Azul, Libertador and Industria Argentina have you covered. Saturday and Sunday, 12-5PM.

HIGH NOTES: Two days of free live jazz celebrates sax great Charlie Parker in the neighborhoods where he lived and worked. Concerts covering the full jazz spectrum (from Count Basie flautist Frank Wess and his Quintet to soul/hip-hop fusion newcomer José James) kick off at 3PM on Saturday and Sunday in Harlem’s Marcus Garvey Park and the East Village’s Tompkins Square Park for the Charlie Parker Jazz Festival.
