7/31-8/1: Hot Dog Cookoff, Lost Circus, Lilith…

…plus Sonic Youth live and--wait for it—Frozen Coronas

WEINER TAKES ALL: Brooklyn’s Kelso Brewery hosts the 5th Annual Hot Dog Cookoff, a day of beer, cutthroat sausage wielding by 20+ teams, live music, and beer, all to benefit City Harvest. Lest you wonder about the caliber of competition, know this: Last year’s victor, Nick Suarez, just beat Bobby Flay in a weiner throwdown. Snap. Saturday, 2-6PM.

BIG TOP: Reasons to attend the Gemini & Scorpio Lost Circus event at Littlefield in the Gowanus Saturday night, in no particular order: 1) It’s a circus for grown-ups, which means no children frightened into tantrums by scary clowns. 2) There’s booze. 3) There’ll be contortionists, fire-breathers and live music by steampunk outfit the Vagabond Opera. 4) Did we mention the no children or clowns part? Saturday, 11:59PM.

XX FACTOR: Sarah McLachlan + Indigo Girls + Selena Gomez + Sara Breilles + Cat Power reboot Lilith Fair at the PNC Bank Arts Center, verily drowning the Garden State in folky estrogen. Lilith 2010 is Saturday, 2:30PM.

SURF’S UP: Summery cocktails (Mai Tais, Dark & Stormys and the Frozen Corona, which is exactly what it sounds like) and fusiony beach eats (shark fry tacos and l’Americain, a sandwich made of Chinese meatballs, caramelized onions, French fries and Gruyere on a baguette) land in Hell’s Kitchen at Réunion Surf Bar, which opened this week from Thomas Wilson and Eugene Ashe (formerly of Mas(farmhouse)), inspired by the French island of the same name. 630 Ninth Avenue @ 44th Street; 212-582-3200. All weekend.

YOUTHFUL: Celebrate Brooklyn! and Limewire present Sonic Youth in concert at the Prospect Park Bandshell. Yes, Kim Gordon et al. cameo’ed on Gossip Girl last season. Still awesome, though. Saturday, 7:00PM/gates 6:00PM.
