7/14: Sting at the Met, Bastille Eats, Candace Bushnell & Co….

…and Meat Loaf rocks the beach as only Meat Loaf can

STING FOR STRINGS: What do you do when you’ve had a nearly 40-year music career that’s spanned everything from reggae-pop to neo-baroque? You call up the Royal Philharmonic Concert Orchestra and re-arrange your greatest hits as symphonies. And you can really only get away with this if you’re Sting (who plays the second of two shows at the Metropolitan Opera tonight, in a stop on his world tour). 8PM.

GRANDE BOUFFE: There’s plenty of Bastille Day fun around town tonight—to kick things off, we’d storm Chef Thomas Keller's Bouchon Bakery fete at Columbus Circle, where you can sup on French classics at stations throughout the café: merguez, saffron mussels and raw oysters to name a few, all hosed down with pinard (a.k.a. wine—and champagne). 7PM.

GIRLESQUE: If you could harness the sheer amount of sassy estrogen in the room at tonight’s event featuring Candace Bushnell (The Carrie Diaries), Cecily von Ziegesar (Cum Laude, Gossip Girl), and J. Courtney Sullivan (Commencement), you could probably power a small country. (Or at least recharge a few hundred pink gem-encrusted Blackberries.) The ladies pow-wow about their new books and share personal tales of college, friendship, love and writing at the Union Square Barnes & Noble. 7PM.

BUT HE WON’T DO THAT: Meat Loaf’s latest project is a concept album called Hang Cool Teddy Bear, about an American solider wounded in Iraq who imagines how his life could have been different. We think it’d make a way better musical than American Idiot, but that’s just us. Moving on, Mr. Loaf rocks the Nikon at Jones Beach tonight. 7:30PM.
