12/9: Isabella Rossellini Screens Her “Green Porno”

Plus Sting’s “Winter's Night” concert at St. John and a 19th-century Christmas

EASY BEING ‘GREEN’: Greenpoint's WORD Bookstore presents (at Coco 66 nearby) a screening of several shorts from the witty and wise “Green Porno” series (now on DVD), the “visually arresting and scientifically accurate look at the sex lives of marine animals and insects”, created by and starring Isabella Rossellini. She’ll be at the event for a Q&A with the audience, and if that’s not enough, truffle popcorn will be served. 7:30PM.

LULLABY: Much like Billy Joel reaching a career turning point and putting out an album of classical compositions, Sting’s recent seasonal disc “If On a Winter's Night...” – on the Deutsche Grammophon label, no less – sees him ditching pop for things more profound. Tonight’s his second and final concert at the Cathedral Chruch of St. John the Divine, where he’s backed by a 35-piece ensemble heavy on brass and strings, and featuring trumpeter Chris Botti. 8PM.

OLD SCHOOL: The Merchant’s House Museum throws its annual 19th-Century Holiday Party, complete with caroling led by the Bond Street Euterpean Singing Society, bishop (a holidayish punch) to sip on and – best of all – the historical home decked out for a holiday from another time. 6:30-8:30PM.
