1/25: Sample 11 New Restaurants (in 1 Night)

…at the Hot Plates tasting event. Plus, a wine class benefits Haiti and more

EAT UP: Metromix may be the competition, but we can’t stay mad at them when they organize events like Hot Plates Live, where $15 lets you endlessly taste wares from nifty new restaurants around town – in this iteration they’ve teamed up with Highline Ballroom (where the event goes down) and 11 eateries including Bia Garden, Corsino and Luke’s Lobster. 6-9PM.

CHEAP, CHEERFUL: Power-pop band Cheap Trick turns 36 this year, but Robin Zander and crew don’t seem a day over 21. Their longevity havng been proven, they can pull the kinds of stunts they’re now known for – touring with Def Leppard and Poison, or reinterpreting the Beatles’ classic into Sgt. Pepper Live. They rock the Fillmore at Irving Plaza at 9:30PM.

GRAPE DEEDS: Andy Fisher, president of the Astor Center and Astor Wines & Spirits, gives you a solid crash course in wine tasting and food pairing in the hands-on workshop the Elements of Wine – even better, all proceeds from the class go straight to the Haitian relief effort. 6:30PM.
