12/15: Sofia Coppola & Stephen Dorff Talk, Prince Welcomes U 2 America…

and the Fred Flare holiday pop-up solves your gifting dilemmas

LET’S GO CRAZY: After all the hullabaloo surrounding the Purple One’s concert dates (they’re moved! they’re cancelled! he’s adding more!), the big night is finally here: Prince will take the stage at the Izod Center/Meadowlands for the first of two nights of the Welcome 2 America tour in NJ (the second’s on Friday) and remind all of us—questionable recent output be damned—why he’s royalty. At this writing, tickets are still available. 7:30PM.

DUET: “Somewhere,” the new film from writer-director-producer Sofia Coppola, nabbed the Golden Lion—the top prize at the 2010 Venice Film Festival. She’ll be at the TimesCenter tonight, TimesTalking with the film’s star, Stephen Dorff, who she had in her sights way back when she started writing the role of Johnny Marco, an actor reconnecting with his daughter. 6:30PM.

CHEAP, CHEERFUL: Fred Flare, one of the city’s most reliable destinations for quirky gifts that won’t melt your plastic, is located way out in Greenpoint, Brooklyn—but its holiday pop-up shop at Jingle is smack dab in downtownish Manhattan, in a storefront at Chelsea Market. Swing in, load up on stocking stuffers, and nosh your way through the Market while you’re at it. Monday-Saturday 10:30AM-7PM; Sunday until 6PM, through December 23.

Also tonight: a shopping-and-cocktails party with discounts at Rugby Ralph Lauren, and an evening of readings from the “20 Under 40” authors selected by the New Yorker (including Gary Shteyngart) at 92YTribeca.
