1/2-3: Rock Annex's Last Weekend

Plus the Brooklyn Museum’s Winter Masquerade Ball and last call for “Nutcracker: Rated R”

‘ROCK’ IS DEAD: Check out Bruce Springsteen’s 1957 Chevy, David Byrne’s “Big Suit” from the Talking Heads days, Billy Joel’s notebook containing scribbled original lyrics for “The Stranger”, the Lennon Exhibit and and even some recent collateral damage from the end of an era: CBGB’s front awning and cash register: The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Annex in Soho shutters as of Monday. Saturday, Sunday; hours vary.

FIRST: The Brooklyn Museum’s first Target First Saturday of 2010, Transformations, is jam-packed with awesomeness, from Princeton prof Daphne Brooks talking about the women of funk rock and the aesthetics of James Brown to a performance by “Hedwig and the Angry Inch” lovers, the Midnight Checkout Queens. Plus the museum’s annual Winter Masquerade Ball. Saturday, 5-11PM.

CRACKED: It’s also your last chance to take in the streetwise “Nutcracker: Rated R”, set in 1980s New York – this pre-“Rent” nod to Tchaikovsky’s ballet wraps its fourth season after tonight’s performance. Saturday, 3 and 8PM.
