SAVE YOUR PAGE: For the love of human decency, leave your iPad at home when you head to Pete’s Candy Store to meet NYC’s most revered book binder, Herb Weitz. The co-owner of Weitz, Weitz, and Coleman has been rescuing tomes for 40+ years, for everyone from Martin Scorcese to King Juan Carlos of Spain, and lectured on the topic at the Smithsonian and beyond. Even better, he’s a raconteur of the highest order, being self-confessedly interested in “old books and young broads.” Book Binder Bacchanal (Open City Dialogue series) is at 7:30PM.  

SMORGASBORD: If you’ve been following Edible’s Eat Drink Local Week, which kicked off 9/26, you know about the “11 ingredients” (they highlighted one each day, from clams to cauliflower, to boost the NYC market for that foodstuff). At the Chelsea market this evening, the Festival of 11 Ingredients will have you supping on delicious samples from market vendors and quaffing Kelso beer and Bedell Cellars merlot, among other tastes. 6PM. 

PENN TO PAPER: If you, like us, get all growly and malcontent at NYC’s shortsightedness when people mention how stately and gorgeous the razed-in-1963 Beaux Arts Penn Station—which opened 100 years ago this month--was compared to the current eyesore, you may need to go to your happy place before attending The Centennial Celebration of Penn Station at the Greater Astoria Historical Society. Lorraine B. Diehl, who wrote The Late Great Pennsylvania Station, will discuss just how great it was. 7PM.
