Cheyenne Jackson, Henry Winkler Comedy to Shutter Early

Gee, that was fast. Producers of the new Broadway comedy “The Performers” said Thursday night the show would close on Sunday, after a run of only seven performances.

In a statement, Robyn Goodman, Amanda Lipitz and Scott R. Delman blamed the shuttering on “the insurmountable after effects of Hurricane Sandy: lack of transportation, power outages and gas shortages chief among them.”

The critical reception, though, was hardly welcoming. In Newsday, Linda Winer said the material in this “90-minute embarrassment” would seem skimpy “as a 10-minute burlesque skit.”

The show, a comedy about two friends reunited at the Adult Film Awards in Las Vegas, was written by 29-year-old David West Read. It featured an all-star cast including Cheyenne Jackson of “30 Rock,” Henry Winkler, Alicia Silverstone and Ari Graynor.
