Vanessa Williams Joining “After Midnight”

Multi-Platinum recording artist and actress Vanessa Williams will join the roster of "special guest star"
vocalists in Broadway’s “After Midnight.” Williams will play performances in the critically acclaimed musical from April 2 through May 11.

“After Midnight” was conceived to house a revolving door of visiting guest vocalists, set to mimic the Cotton Club’s tradition of welcoming musical stars in limited engagements. The show opened in November 2013 with Grammy and “American Idol”-winner Fantasia Barrino in the guest vocalist role, alongside television star Dulé Hill.

Grammy winner k.d. lang currently appears in the production, through March 9. And Grammy winners Toni Braxton and Kenny “Babyface" Edmonds will join the production in March.

Vanessa Williams has a long history on Broadway. Last season, she starred in the revival of “The Trip to Bountiful.” She’s previously appeared in “Sondheim on Sondheim,” “Kiss of the Spider Woman” and the 2002 revival of “Into the Woods,” for which she received a Tony nomination. She’s received three Emmy nominations for her work in television’s “Ugly Betty,” and 11 Grammy nominations for her longstanding music career.
