Play by “Matilda” Scribe Set for Off-B'way

Reed Birney and Margaret Colin will lead the cast of “Taking Care of Baby,” a Manhattan Theatre Club premiere by the book writer behind “Matilda.”

Birney, recently seen in “Picnic,” and Colin, of TV’s “Gossip Girl,” will be joined by Kristin Bush and Tony nominee Amelia Campbell (“Our Country’s Good”) in the drama, by scribe Dennis Kelly.

MTC bills the story as follows: “An unspeakable tragedy. A shattered family. An accusation of murder. ‘Taking Care of Baby’ ... boldly explores the elusive nature of truth and the depths we’ll go to expose it.”

Erica Schmidt (“Humor Abuse”) will direct. “Taking Care of Baby” begins previews on Nov. 5 ahead of a Nov. 19 opening. Tickets go on sale at the end of September. For more information, head to nycitycenter.org.
