Broadway Favorites Lead New Musical Comedy ‘Disaster!'

“Disaster!,” the musical comedy that debuted off-Broadway in 2012, will return to the New York stage with a superstar cast and big new home: Broadway.

Written by SiriusXM host Seth Rudetsky and Jack Plotnick, “Disaster!” will being performances at the Nederlander Theatre on Feb. 9, 2016, with an official opening set for March 8.

Rudetsky will star in the show, alongside Tony winners Roger Bart (“The Producers”) and Faith Prince (“Guys and Dolls”) and Tony nominees Kerry Butler (“Xanadu”), Adam Pascal (“Rent”) and Kevin Chamberlin (“The Addams Family”).

Rachel York (“Dirty Rotten Scoundrels”), Jennifer Simard (“The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee”), Max Crumm (“NBC’s “Grease: You’re The One That I Want”) and Broadway newcomer Lacretta Nicole round out the cast.

The musical parodies the popular disaster movies of the 1970s like “The Poseidon Adventure," with earthquakes, tidal waves and infernos attacking a group aboard New York’s first floating disco casino.

Its score features popular disco, pop and rock hits of the '70s, including Donna Summer’s “Hot Stuff,” Barry Manilow’s “Daybreak” and Ami Stewart’s “Knock on Wood."

Plotnick will also direct, as he did for the two off-Broadway productions of “Disaster!,” in 2012 and 2013, respectively.
