‘Motown the Musical' Returning to Broadway

Turn up that Jackson 5 — Broadway wants Motown back.

Berry Gordy’s autobiographical musical “Motown” will return to the Great White Way in July, playing an 18-week limited engagement at Broadway’s Nederlander Theatre.

The musical, which features over 50 beloved hits from of the legendary Motown catalog, originally opened in April 2013, and closed in January 2015 after 775 performances. Since then, the show has been touring the country, and prepping for a London opening in February 2016.

Gordy himself wrote the book to the show, charting his rise from songster wannabe to record mogul. Diana Ross, Smokey Robinson, Michael Jackson, Marvin Gaye, Stevie Wonder and more are brought to life in the musical, singing hits like “My Girl,” “What’s Going On,” “Signed, Sealed, Delivered I’m Yours” and “Stop! In the Name of Love.”

Charles Randolph-Wright directs.

With “Motown the Musical” heading to The Nederlander, this means that the previously announced open-run production of “Disaster!,” which begins previews at the venue on Feb. 9, will now play a limited run.
